Introduction

There are many types of heart abnormalities. Only the more common ones are described in this website. Some children have more than one problem with their heart and perhaps more than one diagram will then be relevant to that child.

Do not worry if your child's condition is not specifically described here - your doctors will describe the problem clearly to you. The following section is provided as a basic resource for readers and should not be used as a diagnostic or treatment tool.

Readers are encouraged to seek the advice of their cardiologist and surgeon for detailed explanations, management and treatment of the various conditions. The following section is replicated from the excellent and practical handbook for parents titled 'Heart Children'.
